Expect a Kickstarter campaign next month
Jordan Weisman has a pretty impressive résumé, not only for the quality of games he has been behind, but for the fact that they have been in both the board game and videogame arenas. With titles such as Shadowrun, HeroClix, and Crimson Skies under his belt, he has some solid experience making games.
Now that Shadowrun Returns has almost released, his development studio has set its sights on its next project, a board game called Golem Arcana that integrates mobile or tablet technology in order to augment the tabletop gameplay. By tapping the board or figures with a special code-reading stylus, information about the chosen element is shown on the screen.
To be completely honest, while the technology looks great and I could imagine it being used well in other board games, what little we have been shown on how Golem Arcana actually plays is less impressive. If it ends up being more than just fantasy combat on a square grid, I may be interested. Until we learn more, it is giving me a distinct Eye of Judgment vibe, which didn’t really resonate with me personally.
We can expect an official Kickstarter campaign for Golem Arcana early next month.
