Shawn Fanning thinks WoW needs a MySpace

Recommended Videos

Shawn Fanning, the egghead behind the P2P program that struck fear into the hearts of the RIAA way back in the halcyon early 90s, Napster, has decided that World of Warcraft needs an online social networking site, somewhat similar to MySpace, Orkut, or any of the other 12 sites that no one cares about anymore.

His project is called ‘Rupture’ and the idea for such a site “stemmed from Fanning’s own troubles with communicating with other World of Warcraft players.”. Apparently, he was having issues hooking up with that sexy night elf he met that long ago night in Kalimdor, and he wanted to make sure that no one else ever encountered that kind of heartbreak.

While we’re almost positive this site will die a horrible death under the boot of Murdoch’s mighty social behemoth MySpace, Fanning is a very clever guy who has a history of breakout success in the tech industry. It’s entirely possible that WoW players actually want to spend every waking moment with each other (kinda redundant, ain’t it?), and his site is set to aid that goal.

Is this the kind of thing you guys want to see? Do you want to get private messages from orcish cam girls and night elves who want you to check out their ‘fly whip’?
