Shift 2: Unleashed’s ’emotional’ soundtrack revealed

If there’s one word we don’t normally associate with racers, it’s “emotional.” But that’s where Electronic Arts is trying to take Shift 2: Unleashed with its soundtrack that it has revealed this week.

EA has asked traditional composers to rework songs by popular bands, including Rise Against, Hollywood Undead, Stone Temple Pilots, 30 Seconds to Mars, Jimmy Eat World and more. Folks on board include Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man), Troels Folmann, Heavy Melody Music, and Need for Speed Shift composer Stephen Baysted.

EA says its asked each composer to use “emotional themes of the game to create a cinema-level score.” Interesting approach; I’m curious to see how that pans out. Honestly, I’m more inclined to stab myself in the ear canal with a rusty nail than listen to Hollywood Undead. But if anyone can make them listenable, I suppose it would be an award winning composer… right?

Songs and artists include:

  • 30 Seconds To Mars – “Night of the Hunter”
  • Amberlin – “We Owe This To Ourselves”
  • Biffy Clyro – “Mountains”
  • The Bravery – “Ours”
  • Escape the Fate – “Issues”
  • Hollywood Undead – “Levitate”
  • Jimmy Eat World – “Action Needs An Audience”
  • Rise Against – “Help Is On The Way”
  • Stone Temple Pilots – “Take A Load Off”
  • Switchfoot – “The Sound (John M. Perkins Blues)”
