That’s a whole lotta demon summons
Atlus has proudly announced that its long-awaited JRPG Shin Megami Tensei V has met with unsurprising success, having passed one million sales and digital downloads since its release on Nintendo Switch in the fall of 2021. The impressive number was announced by the publisher on Twitter.
Having been first teased way back in January 2017, the latest entry in the long-running, dungeon-crawler saga had a long and challenging road to fruition. However, come November 2021, SMT V was released to stellar critical reviews and equally positive response from the fanbase — all of whom were eager to dive back into its grindariffic world of monsters and melodrama.
Shin Megami Tensei V tells the story of a school student and their friends who are whisked away to an alternative, post-apocalyptic Tokyo known as “Da’at.” There, the protagonist learns of the final act of the ongoing conflict between humanity and demons, as varying factions battle for the fate of all of existence. It is up to the player to pick through the politics and make the decisions that will shape the new world. Honestly, it all sounds like far too much work for me… might just stay in bed.
One million sales, and Shin Megami Tensei V is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
