Sega has released the first trailer for its upcoming anime Shin Sakura Wars the Animation, which will bring the mech-based combat and interpersonal drama of the video game series blazing onto Japanese screens this April.

Although only a scant minute in length, the preview gives us more than enough opportunity to catch Sakura Wars stars such as Hatsuho, Claris, Azami, Anastasia and, of course, Sakura herself, as the Floral division get prepped for more incoming warfare. Alongside the new trailer, Sega also released images of the “Moscow Combat Revue,” who will be making their debut in the anime – Valery Kaminsky, Layla (in purple) and Clara can be found in the gallery below.

Of note, the synopsis provided by Sega states that the events of Shin Sakura Wars the Animation will take place in the time period Taisho Year 30. This actually sets the anime after the Project Sakura Wars video game, making it a direct sequel to the recent release’s events, rather than a side-story or a replication.

Shin Sakura Wars the Animation will begin airing in Japan in April. Project Sakura Wars is available on PS4 now in Japan and will arrive in the west in the second quarter of 2020.
