When you first start your adventure in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, you’re presented with three difficulty modes and two other options: Guided or Exploration mode. First, let me say, you can change between the two options at any time. Also, the entire game is playable in either of the two modes, so don’t fret about potentially making the wrong choice. So should you choose Guided or Exploration mode in Avatar: FoP? Here’s our recommendation.
How does Guided Mode work?
In my experience, Guided Mode is the mode I recommend all players start with on their first Avatar: Frontier of Pandora playthrough.
In Guided Mode, any story or side missions you pick up will place a blue light on your map guiding you to where you need to go to progress the mission. Some missions will still not have exact locations to send you to. For example, some missions have you gather certain materials like fruits, mushrooms, or even bark. These missions will not put a guiding light showing you where to go even in Guided Mode.
In this situation, you have to refer to the Hunter’s Guide to find out where exactly you can find those materials. Then you can check your World Map and look for the specific biomes that are indicated in your Hunter’s Guide. Once there, use your Na’vi Senses to find the materials you are looking for.
How does Exploration Mode work?
While the Guided Mode points you where to go, Exploration Mode wants you to rely on the information given in the mission dialogue to find your destination. This mode is primarily intended for players who wish to really explore and use their Na’vi Senses to track down objectives. In theory, it’s a pretty cool idea for an immersive experience. But in reality, the world of Pandora is huge, and I really recommend players go with Guided Mode unless you are really up for the challenge.
So should you choose Guided or Exploration Mode in Avatar: FoP? For most players I really recommend choosing Guided Mode unless you really want to do a lot of exploring.
