The Shadow Cursed lands of Act II are awfully dangerous, but the Moon Lantern’s helpful glow lights the way for your Baldur’s Gate 3 party. Once you’ve scored the Moon Lantern, you’re able to meet Dolly Dolly Dolly, the snippy BG3 pixie, and she’ll beg you to free her.
Below, we’ll help you decide whether or not to free Dolly the pixie in BG3. Plus, we’ll include a little breakdown of how to meet her and the possible outcomes of your choices. For those of you looking for other ways to navigate BG3’s darkness, be sure to check out our guide on completing the Lift the Shadow Curse quest.
How do you get the Moon Lantern?
As you near the Last Light Inn in BG3’s second act, you’ll stumble into an ambush. The Harpers have a bone to pick with the half-spider, half-man drider and his lackeys. And if you help them take down Kar’niss, the spider guy, he’ll leave the Moon Lantern behind.
Pick up the light for safety, and note the new action in your UI slots. If you interact with the Moon Lantern, you’ll meet Dolly Dolly Dolly, the pixie. It’s not urgent, so feel free to leave her alone until you’re ready to deal with the pixie’s sass.
Should you free Dolly Dolly Dolly the Pixie in BG3?
Yes, it’s probably your best choice to free Dolly the pixie in BG3. Leaving her couped up may make the Moon Lantern shine bright, but you won’t have to carry it around if Dolly casts her pixie blessing on the party. Upon releasing her, the Moon Lantern breaks, but you can fix it later.
Freeing Dolly bestows your Tav with the Filgreed Feywild Bell. Use this to summon her any time after a Long Rest, and Dolly will share her pixie blessing with the party. The item never disappears, and it keeps you safe from the shadow curse and its dangerous darkness.
You can keep Dolly in the Moon Lantern, too, but it keeps things cumbersome. Using the light takes up a weapon slot, but the pixie blessing frees up your character’s hands. With the blessing, you can wander well-armed and shielded, a fair point to weigh considering your surroundings.
What happens if you smash the Moon Lantern?
Dolly isn’t pleased with you should you choose to smash the lantern. You can still free her, and she’ll still offer her Pixie blessing, but not without making a fool out of you. The short-tempered creature leaves you cursed with Clown of the Town, and it’ll stay there until you cast Remove Curse or get revived.
Otherwise, it seems the curse does nothing aside from turning you into a laughingstock. Take it or don’t, but we recommend you free Dolly either way.
