Shovel Knight home stretch live stream, fan art, and fun

Just a few hours left to get in on backer rewards

The Shovel Knight Kickstarter has been a roaring success, raising almost four times its original goal. This game no longer needs your support to become a reality, but you may want to back it anyway. With under 13 hours to go, the campaign is less than $20k away from it’s final stretch goal — all bosses playable in Battle Mode. Other stretch goals, like gender swap mode, challenge mode, and the option to play as three different bosses in campaign mode have done a lot to broaden Shovel Knight‘s appeal. This last stretch goal could be the most broadening of all, effectively infusing it with a Smash Bros-style four-player party fighter. If you were planning of picking up Shovel Knight anyway, you might as well do it now, as it could only work to make your purchase more worthwhile.

The team at Yacht Club Games is giving back to backers with more than just stretch goals. They’ll be running a live stream from now until the end of the campaign. Free entertainment! Ask them questions and enjoy watching them play videogames here. They’ve also announced the many winners of the Shovel Knight art contest. There are tons of categories, which encouraged some surprising results. The chain mail, the sculpture, and the concepts behind a few all new characters were particularly unexpected. At least one of these new characters will be implemented in the game, which is a reward onto itself. That’s on top of the prizes awarded to all the winners. Pretty awesome.

It’s a fine closing to one of the more successful crowd funding campaigns in gaming. Now the pressure is on for Yacht Club to produce a game worthy of all this cash and attention.
