What’s a pirate tale without a cursed ship? The Ashen Corsair investigation promises such an encounter, along with a ton of silver if you track the ship down. Here’s our walkthrough of The Ashen Corsair investigation in Skull and Bones, along with rewards.
I bet the reward is silver. These are just a tad predictable. There are two pre-requisites to starting the investigation:
- The Ashen Corsair investigation is exclusive to those who purchase the Premium Edition of Skull and Bones
- You have to reach the rank of Buccaneer before taking on the quest, as that’s when ‘Investigation’ side stories unlock in the game
Like all extra content in the game, you get the quest via the Mailbox at any Pirate Den. When you’re ready, take the letter to start the investigation.
The Ashen Corsair investigation walkthrough in Skull and Bones
After taking the letter, look for a newspaper that appears on the counter of the Warehouse. It contains an article on the “cursed” ship and hints it was last seen at the Guérande settlement to the south of Saint-Anne. You can check your investigation clues by going to the menu and navigating to the ‘Knowledge’ tab and opening the Investigations segment. Scroll for the investigation you’re currently on. I don’t like it, either.
The clues suggest you should plunder the French settlement of Guérande. So, let’s do that. The settlement isn’t far south of Saint-Anne.
Get close to the settlement and hold down the appropriate button to ‘Plunder’ (triangle button on PlayStation 5). It’s only a Rank 1 settlement, so you should be okay as a Buccaneer — so long as you’ve been leveling up your ship.
Once you’ve cleared the first enemy wave, you’ll get another letter with a hint that you should head north to the Western Basin. If you get stuck, this is probably where it happens. The clue says you need to find a message in a bottle somewhere in the zone. Look for the bottle, a small, orange light, shining from the water, just west of the island group in the Western Basin.
The message reads that The Ashen Corsair is heading east toward the Three Brothers outpost. Sail directly east while scanning the waters with your Spyglass. Soon enough, you should spot the ship between the island group you left and the outpost.
The Ashen Corsair investigation rewards
It’s a Rank 4 ship, but shouldn’t put up much of a fight. Once it’s destroyed, you’ll get one final, haunting letter along with 6,000 Silver, two Silver Boxes, one Silver Chest, one Large Silver Chest, and four Silver Pouches. It’s a lot of silver, and there’s more to be had.
Finishing the Investigation also awards you eight Uncut Diamonds and a Rugged Chest. The chest gives you 2,500 Silver, six Magnetite Ingot, eight Greenheart Planks, ten Roselle Cloth, and the ‘Ashen Followers’ ship cosmetic as part of the Ashen Corsair Set.
But what of The Ashen Corsair’s original captain? For that, you must complete the other Premium Edition investigation, ‘Bloody Bones’ Legacy’.
