So there’s a blog on videogame foliage

Finally! Er… wait

The good folks at Giant Bomb linked us to this fascinating blog on game foliage. Alex Swaim’s Video Game Foliage is my newest Tumblr follow because it’s so weird and specific that I’ll always want to hear what he has to say.

A visual FX programmer by day, Swaim gets really close in with game plants to see how they’re made. Not ironically, either — he really digs this stuff.

For example, Swaim guesses that there are more polygons in the grass and flowers in the Northern Undead Asylum of Dark Souls than there are in the surrounding rocks and tombstones. He also calls out a pretty specific tree type in one of my favorite games ever, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational. He sees these things!

Swaim’s blog even pointed us to another very specific game blog that’s also worth checking out: More Games About Buildings and Food.
