Good news, bad news time. The bad news is that Bob Hoskins, famed English actor who starred in such films as The Long Good Friday, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Hook, and the notorious Super Mario Bros., was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has decided to retire from acting. He’s given us some great times, and I wish him the best in the journey ahead.
The good news is that David Oxford of PoisonMushroom.org has discovered the perfect way to celebrate Mr. Hoskins’ illustrious career! Fellow 90s kids no doubt begged their parents to take them to see Mario in theaters and then purchase odd bits of movie merch. You might even be familiar with the children’s book or the coloring book. Speaking of the coloring book, when was the last time you looked at it? I mean reeeeeaaaaally looked at it?
David was sifting through the Super Mario Bros. The Movie Archive when he began to notice certain things were off about the coloring book. Some scenes depicted in the book didn’t actually take place in the film, while a lot of the art was unintentionally… well… look at the header.
Maybe Bob Hoskins wasn’t exactly thrilled to be a part of Mario movie magic. I will say that if it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have had such a treasure trove of entertainment. So enjoy some choice pages below, or visit the archive for the whole hog. Why not print ’em out, color ’em in, then hang ’em on your fridge! Just don’t forget to thank Bob!
