SEGA has revealed a commemorative 20th anniversary Sonic the Hedehog figurine. In keeping with the theme of Sonic Generations, the figure pays dual respect to both “classic” and “modern” Sonic, with the green-eyed version posing next to a monitor featuring the original Genesis star.
There are only 1,000 of these being made, and there are also two different versions for North America and the rest of the world. This is because the US box art for Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis was different from the International version. Hence, the region gets its own artwork.
Here’s the real rub — SEGA will not be selling these anywhere, and will instead be giving them out in a variety of ways. What these ways are remains to be seen, but it seems that SEGA has a few plans for interesting giveaways.
I propose they’ve given away via torturous traps, a’la the Saw series. Jam your face through a mask of knives to get one, or play the entirety of Sonic 2006 to get a code to a safe that includes a figure! The possibilities are endless, and there’s no shortage of Sonic fans who’d do it!
