A class action suit against Sony alleges that the company fired a portion of its security staff before the PlayStation Network got hacked, and that it failed to respond to a series of smaller PSN attacks in the past.
A “confidential” witness for the suit claims to know that Sony Online Entertainment’s Network Operations centre lost a number of employees right before they were really, really needed. As well as this, basic security measures such as firewalls were allegedly not in place.
Sony appears to have won over the majority of its consumers in the wake of the attack, but a fair few are still sore that 70 million user accounts were put in the firing line and that Sony could have done more. Whether or not firing security staff would have made a difference is another matter entirely, but for the suit, it certainly makes Sony look bad, which I guess is the point.
This new suit was filed on Monday, but Sony is yet to respond.
