But not the US
The price of PlayStation Plus is rising in a few regions. According to Sony in a statement to Joystiq, “We slightly increased prices for PlayStation Plus in South Africa, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and India regions due to various market conditions. Currently, price adjustments are not being planned for PS Plus in the SCEA [North American] region.”
The price increase news first came by way of an email to South African subscribers, noting that within 24 hours, the price would increase from $12.88 to $19.46. Basically, an overnight increase with very little warning.
PlayStation Plus is a great service for games, but it’s interesting to see them play catch-up with Microsoft in terms of straight revenue flow. People always shamed Microsoft for charging for online play, but Sony likely wishes it adapted the same strategy all the way back in the PS3 era for years of returns.
