Pushing for Carbon Neutrality by 2040
PlayStation owner Sony Corporation has announced that it is accelerating its environmental upgrade plans by 10 years. In a new statement (as noted by Eurogamer), the industry giant announced that it would be bringing its “Road to Zero” green efficiency plan forward, with an aim of severely reducing its carbon footprint within the coming decades.
Sony is looking to achieve its ambitious renewable energy goals by revising the power input and output of its global network of offices and production plants. The PlayStation publisher will be looking to install solar panels at its various international locations, whilst exploring other energy-saving measures. The company hopes to have increased its renewable energy usage to 35% by 2025, and 100% by 2030.
In addition, Sony hopes to be fully carbon neutral by 2040, while also ensuring that its wide variety of home entertainment products also produce less planet-harming emissions and run as energy-efficiently as possible. The climax of the “Road to Zero” plan would see Sony achieve its “zero environmental footprint throughout the lifecycle of Sony’s products and business activities” goal by the year 2050.
