Spark the Electric Jester, a 2D Sonic-inspired platformer, is on Kickstarter

Step aside, Freedom Planet?

If you’re a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, you may be aware of fangames by the name of Sonic Before the Sequel and Sonic After the Sequel. Developed by Felipe ‘LakeFeperd’ Ribeiro Daneluz, the games were really impressive and managed to feel like full, Sega-built 2D Sonic games in a way that the trainwreck that was Sonic 4 simply never managed.

Now, LakeFeperd wants to make his own game with Spark the Electric JesterAsking for only $7000, and already having passed the first $2000 in funding on Kickstarter, LakeFeperd is also supplying a three-stage-long playable demo for those not quite sold on the idea yet.

Spark the Electric Jester is admittedly looking a bit unpolished at the moment, and doesn’t currently have enough music or sound design, which is what the funds will predominantly be going to according to the Kickstarter page.

Sonic was not the only inspiration for Spark: MegaMan X and Kirby Super Star were both apparently big influences on the game. Considering the great Freedom Planet started life as a Sonic fangame as well, I’m excited to see how this one ends up.
