Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 details: Release date and pre-order information
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases on the PS5 on October 20. A PC edition hasn’t been confirmed but is likely to come sometime in the future. A PS4 version, however, isn’t in the cards. The game will use the power of the PS5’s SSD to load the game quickly and render the scenery of New York in a flash.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the SSD capabilities of the PS5 “translates to speedier movement through the city, including boosting along wind tunnel routes at impressive speeds using the new Web Wings.” Therefore, it’s likely to assume that a PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn’t possible.
If you pre-order the game at any retailer, you’ll gain the following:
- The Arachknight Suit early unlock
- Shadow Spider Suit early unlock
- Web Grabber gadget early unlock
- +3 Skill Points

All of the characters we know are in Spidey’s next adventure
During Peter Parker’s next adventure, we’ll be seeing villains both old and new. Miles Morales will be back alongside Parker as we can swap between them on-the-fly. There won’t be any multiplayer modes, however. Mary Jane Watson will also be back, as she and Peter Parker decide on their future together as the prequel comic suggests.
Harry Osborn also returns after a coma. He’s been suffering through an uncommon disease. I know what you’re thinking: Green Goblin is probably going to show up during this game. We need the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 details, Insomniac!
All confirmed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 villains
The villains we do know will be showing up are Venom, Kraven The Hunter, Grizzly, Mr. Negative (from the first game), and The Lizard. The Prowler and Kingpin are also expected to return to the fray. If you consider the possible appearance of Green Goblin, that’s a stacked lineup of villains for one game.
Yuri Watanabe, J. Jonah Jameson (who is now the owner of the newspaper The Daily Bugle), and Ganke are also expected to appear in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Are there any new abilities?
A few more Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 details we know that there are some new abilities that Peter and Miles can perform. One major mechanic is the Web Wings. As you’re swinging across New York City, you can now glide with the momentum you have. It looks like a faster method of travel and seems exceptionally thrilling to control.
“Use wind tunnels between skylines to move with haste and behold the capabilities of the PS5 console’s SSD as you soar above the concrete jungle, zipping past all manner of cars, buildings, and people (and pigeons),” said senior community manager Aaron Jason Espinoza on the PlayStation Blog.
Parker gains new Symbiote abilities shown in a recent State of Play trailer, while Miles has new electric abilities that will heighten his battling capabilities. There is also a third skill tree that has both of the Spider-Men sharing technologies and abilities.
“Symbiote tendrils aggrandize Spider-Man’s silhouette, slamming foes against hard surfaces, dealing no mercy to Kraven’s Hunters,” Espinoza said on the PlayStation Blog. You can also “strike back with aggressive parries to gain the upper-hand, or cast a web to shunt enemies between a hard place and a harder place.”
Morales also has a few new lightning-based abilities. He can use a ground pound called Thunder Burst that creates a wave of electricity towards his foes. There’s also the Web Grabber that pulls foes into one spot. After the impressive combat of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, I can’t wait to see how it’s been evolved in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
