Square Enix’s Unreal project from Dragon Quest producer

The latest Famitsu reportedly reveals that Square Enix’s Ryutaro Ichimura is heading up the company’s first project that uses Epic’s Unreal 3 Engine. Ichimura’s last work was Dragon Quest IX, but he says that he has “graduated,” and is now working on several new titles.

This new game is NOT a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, says Andriasang. We do know that it’s an action RPG being made for consoles. The timing is not set, so it could even appear on next generation consoles. Leaks say that Famitsu shows Western-looking art, but Ichimura says that this doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re targeting western audiences.

The game’s core staff is said to be made up of about 35 people. They know RPGs, but need help with the action and networking, and will be recruiting soon. The dev team is also working with unnamed overseas staff on this project.

Note that this issue of Famitsu has not landed, so this information is still a bit floaty. Stay tuned.
