Better yet, there’s a single-player campaign
Based on where Star Wars Battlefront started and where it has ended up after numerous updates and several paid expansion packs, I’m expecting better things for the sequel. A story mode is, of course, the big one. We already knew to expect that, but what else? During an investor call, EA dropped a few more details for Battlefront 2, including that it’s locked in for a holiday 2017 release.
“Our next Star Wars Battlefront will be even bigger, taking players into more locations, and allowing them to play more heroes and characters across multiple Star Wars eras,” said the company.
“There will be new ways to play, including an all-new single-player campaign, and much, much more that we are excited to share with our players in the months ahead.” Worth adding: DICE, Motive, and Criterion are working on this one. Lotta folks!
I’m seeing fans chime in that they’d like the game to incorporate characters, settings, and battles from the prequel trilogy (and related media set during that time frame), and I’m largely inclined to agree. That could be cool! That said, I have to assume the original films and the sequel trilogy are going to be the main focus in Battlefront 2. Those seem like priorities for the powers that be.
Where does all this sequel talk leave the current, still-active Battlefront? DICE says that “no future Skirmish content is planned.” So, yeah. Part of me hopes they’ll consolidate playlists, speed up player progression, and just generally send the game off well, but I’m not about to get my hopes up.
