A release date for Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars: Outlaws has leaked online ahead of a new trailer set to debut today, and Ubisoft itself was the one who leaked it.
The story trailer is currently scheduled to air today on April 9 at 9am PT / 12pm EDT / 5pm BST across Ubisoft’s YouTube channels. However, the Ubisoft Japan channel appeared to have accidentally included Star Wars: Outlaws‘ release date in the video description: August 30.
The video has since been set to private, but Gematsu caught wind of it beforehand and saved a screenshot of the description for posterity’s sake. Not only did it mention the release date, but it also revealed there will be two special editions—a Gold Edition and an Ultimate Edition—which come with a season pass (which confirms post-launch DLC) and three days’ early access. So, anyone who purchases either edition can start playing Star Wars: Outlaws from August 27.
Announced at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, Star Wars: Outlaws was revealed to be the next game from The Division developer Massive Entertainment. It immediately caught peoples’ attention for being the first fully open world Star Wars game, but also for having a protagonist who isn’t a Jedi. Instead, you play as smuggler Kay Vess as she embarks on a journey across multiple planets alongside her cute axolotl looking companion Nix (who is bound to get at least some merchandise).
Back in January, a Disney blog post mentioned how Star Wars: Outlaws was aiming to release in late 2024, a line which was soon rewritten to just say 2024. This suggested it wouldn’t be out until the fall or maybe even Christmas, but it seems Ubisoft is looking to get it in stores slightly earlier. Hopefully, this means development has progressed better than expected. August is a good time to drop a major release like this since, at the time of writing, the month is looking very quiet in terms of new video games, which means less competition for Ubisoft.
