Our very own Jonathan Ross had the opportunity to sit down with Dustin Browder, lead designer on StarCraft II, to discuss all things related to the highly-anticipated game.
When asked about the possibility we would see a map editor, Dustin unleashed a flurry of reassuring answers. “It will definitely be available at launch,” he says, but Blizzard is looking to make it “available in the beta as well.”
As for the map editor itself, we were told that players “can pretty much recreate almost our entire game just with data alone,” which Dustin admits makes the editor “unbelievably intimidating” to work with.” That said, the team is working hard to make the map maker “as easy to use as possible.”
Lastly, Dustin brings up the ridiculously fun custom games in Warcraft III, saying the dev team wants to make sure they give fans “the best tools we possibly can.” As someone who has spent a good couple hundred hours playing these custom games, I must say I’m terribly excited to see what the community brings to StarCraft II.
