It’ll be “easier to mod” after 1.6
It’s hard to believe that Stardew Valley came out in early 2016: but no matter how many times I go through the process of recalling when it actually came out, I’m still shocked by it. It feels like such a big part of the overall gaming landscape and the successful indie narrative; and I still play it yearly with a fairly sizable group of people. And it’s still going, too! Stardew boss Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone tweeted out an update on Stardew Valley version 1.6, and it’s still going ahead as planned (albeit with their next project on pause for a bit).
Here’s the full update from ConcernedApe themselves (as a reminder, Haunted Chocolatier is the next game from ConcernedApe, and has been teased periodically since late 2021):
“There is going to be a Stardew 1.6 update. It’s mostly changes for modders (which will make it easier & more powerful to mod). But there is also new game content, albeit much less than 1.5. I’m taking a break from Haunted Chocolatier to work on this at the moment. Then back to HC.”
Responding to a fan, we got one more tidbit about what 1.6 will entail:
“…The new update will have some more dialogues. [W]orking on it as we speak!”
They also doled out a bit more info on Haunted Chocolatier:
“The town is on the water and there are docks.”
It really showcases just how big the fanbase is for ConcernedApe when that simple statement causes a speculative feeding frenzy. I mean, even if it just has a small amount of gameplay content, I’ll be fully replaying it!
My guess is that ConcernedApe will never truly shake the siren’s song of Stardew: and will do small updates here and there indefinitely. If that ends up being the case, you love to see it.
