Less nightmare beasts, more grow beds
Despite survival-game fatigue, I ended up getting Subnautica a few weeks back. The recent H2.0 update (hah) introduced a tool for scanning creatures and plants, and unsurprisingly, that did the trick. I couldn’t hold out any longer for the Steam Early Access phase to wrap up.
Today’s update also seems keenly aware of my weird gaming interests. It adds underwater farming, something I must take part in, and the option to build a big ‘ol aquarium. “It can be built within standard room modules, stacked for greater capacity, and entered via side-mounted hatches (built separately). Alien lifeforms of varying sizes can be captured and stored, or grown from eggs in controlled conditions designed to match their optimal environment.”
That’s the sort of thing I could get lost in for a few hours, definitely. Other additions include abandoned bases with precious salvageable tech and more ways to fend off darkness, including a neat little LED light stick that looks like an energy sword when you hold it.
