[Destructoid’s Director of Communications Hamza Aziz asked Jonathan Holmes to make a show called ‘Sup, Holmes?’ so that Destructoid could later sell a t-shirt that says ‘Sup, Holmes?’ on it. This is that show. Subscribe to the podcast feed and find more episodes here.]
This week on Sup, Holmes? we’ve got the Jon Mak and Shaw-Han Liem, developers of the PSN/PS Vita phenomenon Sound Shapes. Like Mike Bithell’s Thomas Was Alone, Sound Shapes is a puzzle platformer that combines iconic, abstract visuals with an emotionally inspiring soundtrack to form a whole that is larger than the sum of its parts. Unlike Thomas Was Alone, Shound Shapes features music from Beck, Jim Gutherie, and Deadmau5, graphics from SuperBrothers, and more. It’s more of a collaborative game jam compilation than a single experience, and you can add your own games to the project anytime you’d like, thanks to Sound Shapes‘ level editor/music creator.
We’ll me asking Jon and Shaw-Han what it was like to collaborate with such big name game artists and musicians, about the origins of the Sound Shapes project, where it lies in the space between rhythm game and puzzle-platfomer, and a whole bunch more. Watch us live and join us in the chat, starting at 1pm PST/4pm EST
