Supertrick Games updated fans on its next project. The developer of Let it Die and Deathverse explained how this next title combines the best parts of each of its previous releases to make something it believes fans have been searching for.
The developer shared a lot of information in the fun update video that’s more tongue-in-cheek than filled with facts and details. In it, we get a look at a ‘leaked’ screenshot Uncle Death nabbed when a developer wasn’t looking and learn that eating hamburgers and climbing buildings will be something you do a lot while playing. The game’s DNA consists of roughly 20% Deathverse and 80% Let it Die, and fans are already excited at the prospect of playing this perfect combination.
Fans are eager for a mix of Let It Die and Deathverse
The above dev diary is a 10-minute look into the minds of the development team at Supertrick Games, and it’s just as wacky as you’d expect. I wasn’t prepared for how much I’d laugh at what I thought would be a serious game development update, but it was more of a lengthy discussion about internal leaks and hamburgers. But it’s exactly that attitude to the industry that’s earned Supertrick such a great reputation, and fans are excited for this next game.
In the video, the game’s director, Hideyuki Shin, explains how this new title contains short, roguelike exploration runs while introducing both co-op and PvP elements for players to contend with. It takes the battle royale elements from Deathverse and fits them around the short gameplay bursts that Let it Die was built around. He explained that, “We’re trying to take the fun parts from both games to make something new.”
To me, the game sounds like it’ll have a world for players to fight through where co-op is optional, but there are always other players present. This would give you the option for all kinds of multiplayer experiences. On Reddit, fans immediately began reliving how much they struggled with both Deathverse and Let it Die but can’t wait to relive that pain again in what’s to come.
User OppositeofDeath puts it best. “The original Let It Die has one of the best art styles EVER. It fucking OOZED Suda51. And I have a soft spot for the gameplay systems despite how rough they are. Plus the online systems were really fun and engaging. But the monetization was absolutely horseshit and absolutely pay-to-win. Deathverse kicked the art style and looked incredibly basic gameplay wise. It had no appeal for me. There is IMMENSE potential for this franchise, if they only they go back to the first’s art style, world design, and lose the terrible monetization, and just charge a flat price. And f**k it, get Suda back on board. A boy can dream.”
As someone who really loved and was thoroughly frustrated by Let it Die, I’m excited to see what this next title looks like. The fresh look and combination of mechanics could pull it out of obscurity and make it something a wider audience is ready to sink its teeth into.
However, in truth, both of these games have struggled to gain an audience and go the distance. While I’m all for sticking to your guns and realizing your vision, I can’t help but think that twice now, Supertrick Games has just missed the mark, and I hope it doesn’t repeat that for a third time.
