Vin Diesel
Remember back when Vin Diesel wouldn’t do sequels and we got xXx: State of the Union starring Ice Cube and the worst Fast and Furious movie? But then Riddick happened and, obviously, Diesel returned to the Fast and Furious franchise to mad success.
Well, it’s kind of like that.
Team Meat (Super Meat Boy) was adamant about not making Super Meat Boy 2. Then, last year, it put its new project, the cat-breeding sim Mew-Genics on hold until it could finish its newer project, Super Meat Boy Forever. Here too “sequel” talk was avoided, as Forever is an auto-runner, like Bit Trip.
Speaking to Game Informer, Ed McMillen said working on Forever and realizing the team could bring Meat Boy to new platforms brought about a chance in perspective. “What we talked about was possibly working on a sequel, and it’s something that I like a lot. There were aspects of Forever that were moves that Meat Boy did…that we were prototyping that felt like they could be better used in a sequel. The future of Meat Boy is definitely up in the air, but a sequel is something that I wouldn’t be opposed to doing even though we both said that we wouldn’t do it.”
McMillen also noted that the pair said it wouldn’t work on more Meat Boy after burning out finishing the original. “We purposefully avoided working on another Meat Boy because we didn’t want to jump back into it.”
