The top 999 players get 999 Gold points
Tetris 99 is on a roll.
It’s universally beloved and it nailed its surprise release the first time around without the early access periods and growing pains most battle royale games go through. Arika and Nintendo are also doing a decent job of providing ongoing support, which includes the upcoming Tetris Maximus Cup: a returning event from last month.
The gist is that if you place within the top 999 spots, you’ll earn 999 My Nintendo Gold points (basically the equivalent of 10 bucks) to spend on whatever across the entire Switch eShop. While that might seem like a paltry amount, events typically don’t dole out storefront cash on any platform. The exclusivity of Tetris 99 helps facilitate this program.
It’s going to be a bit different compared to the first Maximus Cup though. You don’t necessarily have to nail first place to take it all. Instead, “the higher you place at the end of each match, the more points you earn, with every 100 points counting as a Tetris Maximus.” It’s give and take, as you can get a ton of points for just playing a bunch, but you also don’t need to feel like you’re getting nowhere if you don’t win matches.
The second Tetris Maximus Cup will be held from April 12 at 6AM PT through April 14 at 11:59PM PT.
