Gather your pals for a few more co-op runs
The Anacrusis, the debut game from studio Stray Bombay, is out very soon. The studio confirmed today that The Anacrusis will launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store on Jan. 13, 2022.
Stray Bombay was formed in 2019, by former Valve writer Chet Faliszek and former Riot Games technical designer Kimberly Voll. The studio has since expanded, and the launch date for The Anacrusis is set.
In a new video, the studio says The Anacrusis is being released in sort of an early access format. There will be changes made as people get their hands on the game. The video also goes into what the launch will include, as well as some new footage near the end.
There will be cross-play across all platforms. and The Anacrusis will also be launching on Game Pass for both PC and Xbox at launch.
The Anacrusis pits four players against an alien horde, as they try to fight their way through a ship stranded on the outer edges of space. Perks will shake up the way you play, as will an AI Driver system that manages everything from weapon and health kit spawns to enemy spawns and bosses.
The co-op scoot-and-shoot genre goes through ebbs and flows, and we certainly got a heavy hitter this year with Back 4 Blood. But seeing as many people are probably wrapping up their campaign runs of that and rounding out their decks, The Anacrusis might be a welcome new entry for co-op night.
With the talent behind it too, it’s hard not to have this on my radar going into the holidays. And January’s a particularly good time for it too. The Anacrusis launch slides in right ahead of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the harbinger of a very stacked February and March for new game releases.
Ringing in the new year with some running and gunning seems pretty likely. We’ll see how it turns out when The Anacrusis launches for Xbox consoles and PC on Jan. 13, 2022. You can wishlist it on Steam here.
