Typically everyone wants to know the location in which they can find the super rare Diamonds in Minecraft. However, Iron is one of the most commonly used resources for everything in Minecraft. In fact, while Diamonds are nice, you will more than likely need more Iron than anything to be successful. Therefore, it can be helpful to know where exactly to find it. Here is the best Minecraft Iron level. We’ve also explained how exactly to find the level to acquire it.
Where to find Iron in Minecraft
Technically Iron can be found anywhere. When Minecraft generates a world, it can randomly spawn a chunk of mineable Iron nodes anywhere in the world, making it one of the more common resources to find. In fact, you can usually find Iron by heading into a cave or underground crevasse and searching a bit. However, there are still specific places where you can look and have a better chance of finding Iron.
Mathematically the absolute best place to find Iron Ore in Minecraft is between the Y Levels 80 and 384. As you can tell, this isn’t even underground but rather a higher-up elevation. What this means is Iron can be found quite commonly inside higher-elevation mountains.
Even though that’s mathematically the best place to find Iron Ore just based on how chunk and world generation works in Minecraft, you have to remember that in most cases at those Y Levels, there is literally nothing but open air, not mountains, so it’s not too reliable to search for.
The next best place is underground, at two different Y Levels. The first is between Y Level -24 and -56. This is consistently the most reliable location where you will find Iron Ore. The second best underground spot is between Y Levels -64 and -72. The chance of Iron Ore spawning at those two levels is the same, so it makes more sense to search at the first location that is not as deep.
How to find your Y Level in Minecraft
So now you know the best Minecraft Iron level and where to look for it, but what exactly is a Y Level? In Minecraft your location is tracked by which block in the world you are standing on, or your XYZ location. Your X coordinate is where you are block-wise West to East, and your Z coordinate is your location block-wise North to South. Your Y coordinate, which is the most important in this case, is your elevation. If you are standing on the Y coordinate of 50, and jump up one block, you are now at 51. If you jump down one block, you are now 49. It’s important to note that the coordinates can also go negative, including your Y Level.
To find out your Y Level in Minecraft, simply open the debug menu. This can be done most easily on PC by hitting the F3 key which toggles it automatically. Then, you want to look on the left side of the screen for where it says XYZ, followed by 3 float numbers separated by slashes. The middle number is your Y Level.
So in this case, if you want to look at the best underground region to find Iron, you want to make sure your Y Level is between -24 and -56 which means you just need to dig down to that area.
That is the best Minecraft Iron level and how you can get yourself there. You should have no problem finding all the Iron Ore you need!
