Onimusha was once a powerhouse of a franchise for Capcom, and it might be regaining its former glory thanks to a newly announced re-release. Onimusha has been dormant for years after spawning an action trilogy plus one, spinoffs of the RTS and fighting game variety, and even a potential movie, but now it’s back thanks to a re-release of the original game on modern platforms.
Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Warlords is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on January 15, 2019. It’ll sport “high-definition graphics” with widescreen support, as well as analog stick support, an easy option, and a new soundtrack. All this will run you $19.99 and the PS4 and Xbox One editions will be getting a physical versions in the US. I’m ready!
Although you might have done a double-take due to the “Warlords” subtitle, note that this isn’t spinoff, but rather the original 2001 classic that started it all on PS2. If this does well there’s no doubt that they’ll re-release the follow-ups, one of which famously starred Jean Reno as its secondary protagonist.
