Halfway to how it should’ve been!
Oh Arkham Knight, you were a trainwreck and a half, weren’t you? When it released on PC a few months ago, it was slammed for it’s terrible performance, bugs, and overall rushed production. The game was pulled from sale on PC shortly after launch (possibly in part due to the then-recent introduction of Steam refunds), and ever since Rocksteady has been chugging away at a patch.
Yesterday, an interim patch briefly materialised with the aim of being a stepping stone between the terrible launch quality and an improved one later down the line, but it was very quickly pulled down. The early response to it was good, with performance being massively increased for those who had the chance to test it out.
Now, finally, the interim patch is officially released. It features performance improvements, better in-game settings, and bugs relating to low-res textures and hard drive usage. This is just the interim patch, further support for DLC (because this is Warner Bros.), further improved performance, and including features already in the console version are being worked on.
You can read the full announcement for the patch on the Steam forums. The game still isn’t available for purchase just yet, but will be back “Fall 2015”.
Personally, I think that considering the game was released back in June, the amount of time it’s taken for this patch to materialise really doesn’t mean Warner Bros. deserves too much praise for this move. Had it put the effort in the first time around, it wouldn’t have been in this mess in the first place. It’s good that people who stuck with it can finally enjoy the game though.
