They will. I’m serious. I’m also serious about bringing you the most up to date in spelling technology.
The most recent Scripps Spelling Bee winner (that’s the big, important one) was Katharine Close from Asbury Park, NJ, who won by correctly spelling “Ursprache”, which is German for “will die a virgin.” And if you rush out to buy Crave Entertainment’s new title, Spelling Challenges and More!, so will you.
In their defense, at least the PR department is honest:
“Movies like Akeelah and the Bee, Bee Season and Spellbound have made spelling bees and word games hot,” said Doug Panter, director of brand marketing for Crave Entertainment. “Presenting these games in an entertaining, interactive format on videogame consoles is a great way to get the whole family invovled in a fun activity and actually learn something, too.”
Tell me, Katharine, how does one say “cash in” auf Deutsch?
With Brain Age having swept the nation, it’s no surprise that more educational games are being produced. But can it compete with Ys? At $19.99, in a market where anything to keep parents from teaching their own kids how to read basically sells itself … maybe. Who knows?
Spelling Challenges and More! will be availble this summer for the DS and PSP. Unfortunately, no etymological art or screenshots are availble yet.
Full press release after the jump.
