HBO has tapped Jeffrey Wright to reprise his in-game role of Isaac in The Last of Us Season 2. He’s not the first actor to return to the same role they had in the video game, but it’s a pleasing trend to see the series continuing nonetheless.
Wright played Isaac Dixon in The Last of Us Part II, which launched on the PlayStation 4 in 2020. Isaac, for those who may not recall, is the leader of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF). The group stands opposite another in-game faction, the Seraphites, often referred to as “Scars.” Both groups were antagonistic forces to Ellie and her allies, with the cultish Scars being particularly brutal.
Wright returns to reprise his role from the game
In the game, the WLF made the decaying ruins of Seattle its home turf. Battles between the group and the Seraphites raged on until the two managed a shaky truce. Abby, the deuteragonist of the game, was part of the WLF. If the show follows along with the events of the game, we’ll likely see the WLF and its calculating leader not long after Seattle gets thrown under the spotlight.
As mentioned, Wright certainly isn’t the first actor to join The Last of Us series as the character they portrayed in the game. Merle Dandridge reprised her role as Marlene, the Firefly commander who tasked Joel to transport Ellie in The Last of Us Part I. Both Troy Baker, who voiced Joel in the game, and Ashley Johnson, who voiced Ellie, also made an appearance in the first season but not as their characters.
Wright will appear alongside Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who return as Joel and Ellie, respectively. They will also be joined by Catherine O’Hara in an unknown role.
The Last of Us Season 2 doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but is scheduled to arrive on HBO and Max in 2025.
