You’ve seen this Monster Hunter 4 trailer before, right? It’s the same concept footage that was shown during Nintendo’s pre-Tokyo Game Show conference in September. I’m sharing it again in light of some new information out of the latest Iwata Asks roundtable discussion.
While the bulk of the talk concerned the upcoming Monster Hunter 3G, Nintendo head honcho Satoru Iwata pressed Capcom director Kaname Fujioka for deets on the next big MonHun. Fans who have seen the trailer, myself included, might have thought the on-screen action was too scripted to be an actual battle scenario and was constructed for the sole purpose of building hype. Though gameplay specifics weren’t mentioned, Fujioka was able to confirm that the trailer was a recording of staff members playing the game in real time.
Fujioka felt it was important to share actual development progress in the name of full disclosure, hence the very rough but cinematic trailer. Of course, the final game might turn out wildly different than what was in that footage, but at least this news further demonstrates the commitment by Capcom to really shake up the series’ traditional gameplay style.
