“We have been working with Sega to re-create Sonic 3 & Knuckles“
There is now a Sonic Mania studio Sonic Origins connection.
The cat is out of the bag with Sonic Origins, and that means that Headcannon, the studio behind Sonic Mania, can officially confirm that they had a hand in its production. Here’s the full statement from the studio:
“Headcannon is proud to announce that we have been working with Sega to re-create Sonic 3 & Knuckles for their upcoming Sonic Origins collection!”
Specifically, they note that they worked on the Sonic 3 & Knuckles portion of the game, while simultaneously explaining their additional involvement: “assisting” in the pre-production of Sonic CD, co-developing Sonic 1 and 2, and their work on the aforementioned Sonic 3.
They also clarify that “Sonic Origins and its integration and presentation of these games is separately created and curated by Sega.” So before the reviews hit next month, you can get some sort of idea of who actually worked on this re-release. That increasingly matters these days in an era with uneven remasters/remakes!
This release seems like a slam dunk, including the Sonic Mania studio Sonic Origins connection: outside of the frankly mind-boggling monetization strategy. Why this retro release was broken up into a Ubisoft-style chart that looks like it was from the mid-2010s is a question for an investor.
Headcannon is proud to announce that we have been working with @Sega to re-create Sonic 3 & Knuckles for their upcoming #SonicOrigins collection!
This completes the official "Remastering" of the mainline classics and marks our fourth time out with #SonictheHedgehog!
