The week in Rock (Band DLC): ‘Play some Skynyrd, man!’

Happy New Year! Here is your Rock Band DLC for the first week of 2008 …
I’ve never been accused of cheating and then been threatened at gunpoint, but I think after a few bottles of Jack Daniels, I could easily sell (the master track of) Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Gimme Three Steps.” The song is one of three songs added to the Rock Band downloadable content roster this week. Along with a cover of The Black Crowe’s “Hard to Handle,” the classic tune is going to be a must-have for those looking to pump up their Southern rock-flavored set lists.

Rounding out this week’s selections is a cover of “Limelight,” the fourth track off of Rush’s eight studio album, Moving Pictures. The lyrics to “Limelight” were penned by Rush’s Neil Peart, and primarily deal with him struggling to handle the band’s rising success. Ironically, Moving Pictures became one of the Rush’s most commercially successful albums.

All of the tracks will cost the expected 160 MS points/$2, and are currently available on the Xbox Live Marketplace (if you’re lucky enough to access it). PlayStation 3 owners will have to wait until Thursday for the tracks; as a reminder, they will also be getting the five songs they missed out on from last week, due to the holidays.
