Kinda sorta
Mega Man fans have probably given up on the Legends series by now. Between the cancellation of Legends 3, and the fact that Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 can’t be released on the PlayStation Network because Capcom no longer has the rights to the voice performances, there’s not a whole lot of light at the end of the tunnel.
But wait! Recently, Capcom surveyed fans and asked them some questions on their favorite IPs, and what they wanted to see more of. Unsurprisingly, re-releases for Legends 1 and 2 were near the top of the list. So how does Capcom respond? Christian Svensson gives us the latest scoop:
The VO barriers exist for a release of PS1 code (which can’t be changed) on PSN. They do not exist if we were to port them to other platforms and replace the original VO (new development required, which is expensive). The question exists to gauge interest and only that.
So there you have it. If Capcom has a big pile of money one day, and deems it financially viable to re-record the performances, we might get a re-release of Mega Man Legends 1 and 2. I don’t want to outright say there’s hope for an eventual Mega Man Legends 3 revival, but who knows — anything can happen if there’s money to be made.
As for me, I couldn’t wait for Capcom to sort it out. Considering I have a Quest coming up that involves Legends, I ended up picking up Legends, Legends 2, and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne myself this year. They’re…pretty expensive to say the least, so a re-release would be most welcome.
While the first two Legends titles aren’t my favorite Mega Man games, Tron Bonne is something truly special — too bad it’s also one of the most difficult used games to find on the market. Figure it out, Capcom!
