The Game of the Wind
Behind George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, Patrick Rothfuss’s The Kingkiller Chronicle is probably the most well-regarded current fantasy book series. The former has had plenty of games based on it at this point, including a great board game and a decent Telltale adventure. So why not get Kingkiller in on that action? It looks like things are rolling that way.
After a drawn out bidding war, Lionsgate acquired the rights to expand The Kingkiller Chronicle past the book trilogy. Lionsgate’s Erik Feig goes so far as to say the franchise “demands multiplatform exploration.” As such, the studio has plans for movies, a television series, and a video game.
No information on developer, platform, or release window is out there. Since this deal just went down, there probably isn’t anything to show and there won’t be for a while.
I read through The Name of the Wind but never got around to The Wise Man’s Fear. What I remember is that Kvothe is a badass wizard, he went to like a hardcore version of Hogwarts, and he has lots of sex with women of indescribable beauty. So, maybe we’ll get a magic-focused God of War-like out of this?
