THQ may have shifted gears when it comes to the once-planned downloadable content expansion of Saints Row, but things have not totally changed over there in regards to their DLC strategy. In a press release today, the publisher announced a “season pass” for the upcoming Darksiders II, which will be included in copies of the title’s Limited Edition that are purchased directly from THQ through their online shop.
The pass entitles the purchaser to receive the second and third DLC expansions to Darksiders II, free of charge. It also serves as confirmation that there will be second and third DLC expansions to Darksiders II, which I can’t recall them specifically stating before. So there’s that.
A voucher for the first piece of Darksiders II DLC, Argul’s Tomb, planned for release a month after the game ships, was already to be included in all Limited Edition copies of the game. Further sweetening the pre-order pot, THQ is also offering still additional content for those direct purchases in the form of another special set of armor and scythe for Death to equip and throwing in free shipping.
This comes several months after THQ previously announced pre-order incentives at major retailers, which seems like a pretty crappy thing to do to the consumers who had already made a decision to pre-order elsewhere, as well as the retailers who took those orders. Of course, if you hadn’t yet gotten around to plunking down cash (and aren’t a little bit disgusted by this whole thing), I suppose the THQ shop is the place to go.
