I’d like to imagine that today, all around the world, the rabid fans of Psychonauts will read this news and have involuntary muscle spasms of joy. Yes, their master, Tim Schafer, has seen fit to throw his wisdom down from the mountain, where it was no doubt carried on stone tablets by the interviewer from PSM3 who brings us the word.
Tim Schafer is ready to make Psychonauts 2, saying, “It’s really a question of getting a publisher who’s interested in doing it.”
Oh, yeah. There’s always that thing. Call me a pessimist, but when the title on offer is the sequel to a game which performed well below expectations in a now less-than-popular gameplay genre, I don’t expect there to be a whole lot of interested parties.
Still, Schafer points out that greater awareness of Psychonauts through Steam sales and piracy means that there is an audience who will play it, saying,”if all these people were going to buy the sequel it would be a big hit.” Perhaps that’s enough to get someone to take a risk on Tim one more time.
