There was a large time when the option for mobile sports games would be pretty generic and largely limited in scope. Times and technologies have changed, and many developers have either created a mobile port for their console games or made a separate version. Few titles are also exclusive to mobile devices, providing ample choices for gamers.

10 best mobile sports games on iOS and Android

While the list is not ranked in a certain way, it tries to meet the different expectations and tastes of gamers. All the names on this list of best mobile sports games are pretty popular among both iOS and Android users, and have millions of players worldwide.

FC Mobile

EA Sports rebranded its FIFA Mobile to FC Mobile earlier in 2023, and the game has managed to grow steadily. According to EA Sports, the mobile version has been performing very well financially, which isn’t a surprise. FC Mobile is a portable version of the mainstream Ultimate Team mode, which is available on PC and consoles. The main objective is to make the best squad possible from special cards, and there are plenty of ways to earn them. From daily activities to fully licensed Euro tournament, you’ll always have a supply of content, but do note that reaching the very top can require involving yourself in microtransactions.

MLB 9 Innings 2024

MLB 9 Innings 2024 is the best option for Android and iOS users to enjoy authentic baseball action on their hands. You can enjoy cards based on real-life professionals from the MLB, along with the chance to enjoy Hall of Famers. There are plenty of different game modes, allowing you to enjoy single and multiplayer experiences. MLB Perfect Innings 2024 is also another great option, but its hardware requirements are slightly higher.

NBA 2K Mobile

2K might have developed a mobile port for NBA 2K MyTeam, but NBA 2K Mobile is certainly the better choice for iOS and Android users. Unlike 2K MyTeam’s mobile port, 2K Mobile is a game developed purely for handheld users. It has many similarities with WWE Supercard, but gameplay is more focused on simulation. Plenty of special cards and items are released throughout the year, and the objective is to build the best team possible.

eFootball 2024 Mobile

FC Mobile might have better promos and cards, but eFootball‘s simulation experience on iOS and Android devices is top-notch. In fact, this is the closest you could get to a console experience on your phone as far as gameplay and graphics are concerned. The only negative is the sole focus on the multiplayer experience, as eFootball 2024 is yet to get a Manager mode experience on both console and handheld. Additionally, Konami is a lot more generous when it comes to providing in-game resources to its player base.

Real Cricket 24

Cricket might not be as global as a sport as football or basketball, but it has a large following, especially in South Asia. Real Cricket 24 is a decent cricket simulator, offering plenty of content for free. From national tournaments to franchise contests, players have a lot to choose from. While some of the modes require an additional purchase/subscription, Real Cricket 24 does offer a satisfactory experience compared to its competitors on the market.

Madden NFL 2024 Mobile

Madden NFL 2024 Mobile is to the NFL what FC Mobile is to football. However, Madden Mobile is a better adaptation of the console version than FC Mobile (as of the time of this writing). The mobile version is mainly focused on the Madden Ultimate Team experience, where players have to build the best fantasy squad. Several promos are released every season, including unique cards of NFL pros and Hall of Fame legends. Additionally, a separate mode is available that lets you contest for the Lombardi Trophy.

NBA Live Mobile Basketball

While NBA 2K Mobile offers an amazing experience, it only runs on the higher-end Android devices (and on the more recent iOS-run models). EA Sports’ NBA Live is a much more accessible experience in that regard if you’re looking for a mobile sports game. The game modes are very similar to the ones found in FC Mobile and Madden Mobile. That said, the daily grind can feel repetitive at times, but you can build a brilliant lineup without getting involved with microtransactions.

Ultimate Clash Soccer

If you have played Dream League Soccer, chances are that you might have heard about Ultimate Clash Soccer. Being developed by the same studios, Ultimate Clash Soccer is a very different experience from other football games on the market. For starters, the entire gameplay is focused on PvP matchmaking, and matches take place as duels. The onus is to score two goals before your opponent does, and a win moves you up on the ladder board. Gameplay involves you in situations where you have to make judgments in real-time (in a matter of a few seconds, quite literally). Wins and losses often boil down to one crucial decision, and it can lead to some really intense moments. While there are no licensed football clubs and leagues, Ultimate Clash Soccer has authentic footballers, thanks to a FIFPro license.

NFL Rivals

NFL Rivals might appear to be a more casual take on American football due to its cartoonish gameplay, but it’s anything but that. The gameplay presentation not only feels fresh, but it simplifies a lot of controls (perfect as far as mobile devices are concerned). Like Madden Mobile, the objective is to build the best squad possible, and there are plenty of cards to acquire. NFL Rivals is fully licensed, which means that you’ll get all the identifiable faces. There’s one major complaint – finding cards above the Rare tier is really difficult if you’re playing free-to-play.

NFL 2K Playmakers

2K Playmakers is the most recent entrant to this list of mobile sports games, released worldwide in April 2024. If you were upset by the closure of NBA Supercard, 2K Playmakers could be the perfect option to consider. However, it’s more than CCG since there’s a strong focus on strategy. While the game is a bit shallow in terms of current content, 2K has been steadily pushing new features and events. Now is perhaps the best time to join the bandwagon, right before NFL 2024 commences in August.
