Bathing in the glow
As a visual novel, Tron: Identity is a complete narrative but also works as a possible prologue. It lays fertile ground for possible follow-ups. Thankfully, it sounds like that’s the plan, as Disney Games Producer Heidy Vargas has said in an interview with d23 that this is just the start of their collaboration with developer Bithell Games.
It comes at the very end of the interview that Vargas states:
“There are a few other projects in the works that I can’t mention yet, but of course, TRON: Identity is the start of Bithell Games’ collaboration with Disney on TRON-dedicated games. Players can expect more TRON titles to come in the future.”
Tron: Identity is a pretty excellent take on the property. It takes the setting and applies some new genres of storytelling to it. It comes away with its own unique, uh, identity within the property. It’s also a tight and experimental little visual novel that does what it needs to without any superficial fluff to extend runtime.
More than that, though, it’s obvious that Bithell Games was very excited to work with the property. That love and affection shine through in the finished game, and part of my enthusiasm is essentially vicarious excitement for the dev team being able to pursue this passion further. You can sign me up for seeing more of it.
Tron: Identity releases today on April 11, 2023. You can give this disc a spin on either Switch or PC.
