Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid V, Batman: Arkham Knight) may be the most in-demand video game voice actor, but even he has to audition, as he recounts in this panel footage. He does get to be more free form with it, though.

There was a script, but the team at Ubisoft told him, “‘You have free reign to do whatever you want to do. We have an idea of what the character is, but we want to see what you come up with. One thing: We don’t want the Joker.‘”

So while Baker was auditioning, an assistant “making sure there was enough coffee and water” walked in and became an unwitting prop.

“And I just remember [Pagan Min voice] I was talking like this, and all of the sudden she walks in. I said, ‘I’m sorry, who is this? Who is this walking into this room right now? No, no, no, no, don’t leave. Sit down.

I was like ‘Have a seat, please. Make yourself comfortable. Would you like some coffee that you brought in? It looks very delicious. Now, here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to murder her right in front of you.'”

He also told her, “I’m going to peel your face off and put it on my own. It’ll be the most glorious makeover I’ve ever had.” Meanwhile, the team at Ubisoft found it had the perfect fit for the character.
