TwitchCon’s happening again this fall, leaves Bay Area for San Diego

Times, they are a changin’. Once, it was enough to attend a video game convention to play video games. Now, there’s a whole subset of people who would rather attend a video game convention to mingle with people who play video games. Almost the same, but not really at all.

Apparently the first go was successful enough to warrant another, so Twitch has announced its second annual TwitchCon. It’s even expanding! This year, the convention will be three days long instead of two, taking place from September 30 through October 2. Also, Twitch is leaving behind its headquarters’ city of San Francisco to hold TwitchCon 2016 in San Diego at the San Diego Convention Center.

The main allure outside of meeting people who you like to watch play video games is to watch those people play video games. There’s a big H1Z1: King of the Kill competition where a bunch of the folks are trying to survive to win some cash. Maybe make a sign to cheer on your favorite streamer. Is there a streamer named “Defense?” That’s a classic sign and chant.

Tickets to this thing are on sale now via the TwitchCon website. It looks to be $127 to get in on all three days, and that’s the going rate for Twitch streamers too. I’d get in on this streaming racket, but I’m told no one will tune in to watch me meticulously walk backward at the beginning of every single level.
