UC Vanguard questline and rewards in Starfield

Citizenship is just a horrifying monster fight away.

starfield uc vanguard questline and rewards

The UC Vanguard stands out among other Starfield factions. It contains two questlines: one where you infiltrate a band of violent pirates, and another in which you face off against deathclaws in space (technically). If you’re finished with the Crimson Fleet questline, now’s a good time to wrap up the UC Vanguard completely and get all the rewards before continuing your Starfield journey.

If you haven’t already, you must join the UC Vanguard before starting its questline. We have a walkthrough if you need it, but basically, you must head to New Atlantis and speak with Commander Tuala at MAST HQ. Begin the mission ‘Supra Et Ultra’ and continue with ‘Grunt Work’. For the Crimson Fleet questline, follow the ‘Deep Cover’ mission.

Below are the missions, which I’ll keep as spoiler-free as humanly possible.

UC Vanguard questline missions

  • Supra Et Ultra
    • Prove your worth to the UC Vanguard by listening to a boring history lesson and then flying a fake spaceship. Check our guide for a list of pilot simulator rewards.
  • Grunt Work
    • The mission that sets you on the Vanguard questline takes you to Tau Ceti II. What begins as a simple delivery spirals into a fight with a Terrormorph.
  • Delivering Devils
    • You need to locate Dr. Percival Walker, an expert on xenomorphic threats. But that’s easier said than done. He’s in hiding due to a debt, and you need to prove yourself to track him down.
  • Eyewitnesses
    • There’s nothing more exciting than a meeting with the UC Cabinet! Oh, except New Atlantis gets attacked by Terrormorphs, leaving you to do some cleanup work.
  • Friends Like These
    • Now that the UC is on your side, you have to convince both the Freestar Collective and House Va’ruun to give you the codes you need to access the Armistice Archives.
  • The Devils You Know
    • You get invited to a meeting with a person the UC has kept in hiding for many years. He has what you need, but first, he wants a favor: You must track down and get rid of a scientist. There are two ways to go about it, but the result is the same.
  • War Relics
    • Your next mission is to find and return an old war robot named Kaiser. He’s needed for the next quest.
  • Hostile Intelligence
    • And that next quest takes you to Londinion, the epicenter of a devastating Terrormorph outbreak. The job is to collect Aceles gene samples, but you gain some earth-shattering knowledge as well.
  • A Legacy Forged
    • The final official mission in the UC Vanguard questline sits you face-to-face with the man behind everything. You can choose his fate when talking to the council, but the big choice comes after. What do you do with the Terrormorph threat? Do you use the Aceles or the microbes? What happens next is up to you.
  • Preventive Action (Optional)
    • Preventive Action is an optional mission in the UC Vanguard questline that only unlocks if you choose to lie about the perpetrator’s involvement. You need to lie to everyone connected, and that includes Hadrian, Dr. Walker, and the UC Cabinet. Choose the [Lie] option in each conversation, and the optional mission unlocks. Preventive Action is a repeatable quest that tasks you with eliminating targets for “the greater good.”

UC Vanguard questline rewards in Starfield

As it is with every questline, each mission with the Vanguard rewards you in experience points and credits. But the big rewards? Oh, they’re quite good.

Equipment

You get three pieces of equipment for finishing Grunt Work. Those include the UC Vanguard-branded spacesuit, helmet, and pilot pack.

Housing

Two UC Vanguard missions can result in getting a house in New Atlantis. Finishing the mission ‘Friends Like These’ awards you with UC Citizenship. With your new ID, you can buy an apartment in The Well for 30,000 credits (go to Aphelion Reality in New Atlantis). But don’t waste your money. Wait until you finish the final mission, where you earn Class A citizenship. Speak with Commander Tuala and he’ll point you to Aphelion Reality, where you’re rewarded a massive penthouse in the Mercury Tower for free.

Companion

Return to the Red Devil headquarters on Mars and speak with Dr. Walker and then Hadrian. You can recruit Hadrian for your adventure if you choose.
