UK goes Wii crazy: bundles selling for ?1000

The latest game consoles are often in short supply during the holiday season, and it’s not uncommon for the most desired ones to go for higher prices, but shoppers have gone absolutely bonkers in attempts to acquire a Nintendo Wii.

According to UK newspaper Metro, Wii bundles are being sold for a more than £1,000 (just over $2,000) on eBay UK. We didn’t believe it either, but a quick search on ebay.co.uk proved us wrong. This bundle, which sold for £1,070 ($2,189 by today’s conversion, may be one of the auctions that Metro was referring to. Granted, the winning bidder (check out his user name) doesn’t seem like most reputable guy.

As MCV points out, things seem to have calmed down a bit, as most auctions are ending with with prices in the £250 (about $500) range. The US Wii sales on eBay seem to be going for similar prices.

Of course, you can always find a “successful” freak eBay auction with an outrageous price. Here’s a US sale for a Wii bundle that came to $10,990. Right.
