Update for Nvidia Shield unlocks 1080p streaming

So many pixels in the air

The Nvidia Shield, the little controller with a screen attached to it, just rolled out an update that lets it stream games in 1080p. Before this update, it could only stream games in 720p. This update also touch controls from Android games to be mapped to physical buttons, which is really awesome.

If you are a Shield user in northern California, you will be able to try out Nvidia’s new GRID service. GRID will let you stream games to your Shield from the cloud, instead of streaming from your own gaming PC.

The Shield is $50 off right now for the Holidays, which means it’s only $249. Not an awful price for a device that is becoming more and more useful.
