Bring on HUD-less
[Update: You can find the iOS version here and the Android version here!]
One of my favorite things to do in open world games, especially in the fabulous Fallout: New Vegas, is turn off the HUD. It’s amazing to quickly learn how much you rely on a HUD for pretty much everything. With so many studios in recent years have embracing the idea, they’ve experimented with alternate ways to display information: Rockstar is trying it with Red Dead Redemption 2.
By way of the companion app that’s coming on Friday on Android and iOS, you’ll be able to connect your PS4 or Xbox One and operate the game’s map and read protagonist Arthur Morgan’s lore-filled journal. The idea is that you can set waypoints or check the map manually, using it as a separate tool from the main game.
Rockstar specifically mentions going HUD-less in the announcement, which will also link up with the Rockstar Social Club and provide a full digital game manual. Not bad! Whenever Rockstar gets around to releasing a PC edition this is going to really kick ass with survival mods.
Expect our review tomorrow morning!
