A few hours ago, a very excited Markus “Notch” Persson tweeted that Minecraft developer Mojang and Bethesda have settled their “Scrolls” dispute. As you might recall, Bethesda filed a lawsuit last year over a possible infringement on “The Elder Scrolls” trademark by Mojang’s upcoming Scrolls. Mojang won an interim injunction, but now it’s 100% free to keep using the “Scrolls” name.
As part of the settlement, Mojang can never actually trademark the word “Scrolls” or make an Elder Scrolls competitor that contains the word “Scrolls” in the title. Since the only thing that has ever mattered to the company was being able to keep calling Scrolls “Scrolls,” Notch and the rest of the Mojang crew are as happy as clams.
And since I didn’t say “Scrolls” enough times: Scrolls, Scrolls, Scrolls, Scroll-y, Scroll-y, Scrollseinheimer.
Scrolls will be Scrolls [Mojang] (Thanks, Isshak!)
