Warcraft Rumble‘s Blackfathom Deeps is one of the few dungeons that will be in the general rotation (the post-launch plan is to increase the count from four to five), so it’s important to master it. Here’s how to beat all three encounters.
General Warcraft Rumble Blackfathom Deeps tips
- In terms of relics to prioritize, look for ones that summon units for free (like whelps or raptors) – Blackfathom Deeps has a lot of weak units that are thrown your way en masse, and these will help thin the herd
- Use a strong leader who can tank – we have a full guide on great leaders to choose from here
- For Beast Week, Hogger is a great leader to focus on, with a team of minis that are low-cost – for my Hogger team, I used Harpies, Murlocs, Defias Bandits, Huntresses, SAFE Pilots, and the Polymorph spell.
Boss 1 – Grglmrgl
This is actually the toughest encounter of the three, but there are a few tricks you can use to make it more manageable.
First, try and grab both chests at the start with cheap units. Next, use the SAFE Pilot (or another spell/unbound unit) to destroy all three Murlocs on the hill next to your spawn (when they are grouped together), and work on taking the right side with a tank and some ranged supports.
Move to the left tower next, then start working on defeating the Murlocs above the left and right towers, as they’ll slowly pick off your units one by one. Keep them down to swarm the boss, then continue to use AOE when enemies spawn in that small little chokepoint.
It’s important that you take out all three groups of spawning pesky Murlocs, or they will wear down your troops before they can get to the boss. Again, any spell strong enough to one-shot a group of them at once, or any unbound unit is ideal.
Boss 2 – Baron Aquanis
Baron Aquanis isn’t so bad if you prioritize the right [into the middle] lanes, and ignore the left and right towers. Take the first tower to the right immediately to gain safe access to the gold vein, then work on countering the drakes, which will make short work of your squads and tanks. Deploying the Huntress after a tank mini is a great strategy, but any ranged unit will do.
Don’t focus on taking the entire map: it’s tough to defend all three lanes, so try and overwhelm the boss in one of them. Your right-hand tower will help defend the top as well as the middle lane; you need to pay attention to the left to ensure an errant Gargoyle isn’t heading straight for your base.
Boss 3 – Aku’Mai
Aku’Mai is the easiest boss of Blackfathom Deeps, so congrats, you’re nearly there!
Your first order of business is fending off the right side with a light set of minis, then go hard on the left to take the boss and the tower. With the tower under your command, head right and defeat the other boss there, then flip the switch on the ground to the left (if your units walk forward into the water before all three initial heads are dead, they’ll be instantly destroyed). Split your units between the left and right sides (over the bridge) to take down the third head.
With the rest of the map open, it’s easy street from here. Split push the left and right heads, then pincer the center. Just note that you will need to fend off enemy units, so AOE and spells work great here for taking the pressure off either side.
Take your time! Overtime will increase your passive gold revenue, so you have plenty of time to take down the heads. Once all three final heads are destroyed, you win! Collect your reward and grind out the dungeon until your leader of choice has all gold slots.
For platinum leader slots, you’ll need to play the upcoming Molten Core raid.
